The water box is a hand-cranked water treatment appliance which uses UV light to treat water for microbiological contamination. Turning the crank drives a direct current generator, which supplies electrical power to a germicidal UV lamp inside the water tank. The tank holds 1 gallon of water. Treatment is done one batch at a time. An effective exposure of the germicidal UV light is achieved by turning the crank for one minute.

What it Does
The DayZero® WB-GX Water Box disinfects water from unsafe sources.
The DayZero® WB-GX Water Box is an ultraviolet household water treatment appliance which treats water for microbiological pathogens: viruses including Coronavirus, bacteria, and microscopic parasites including Giardia and Cryptosporidium.
In all the models, one minute of treatment disinfects a full tank of water. The treated water may be used immediately. The WB-GX model includes a hand-cranked generator so that it may be used even when external electrical power is not available. Both the WB-GX and WB-X models may also be powered from a household electrical outlet or an automobile’s 12V DC circuit; adapters for both sources are included.
The WB-GX Water Box is designed for use when safe drinking water is not available from municipal water systems. It replaces boiling as a way to render water of questionable quality safe to drink and cook with.
How it Works
The UV-H2O-Box disinfects drinking water using germicidal ultraviolet light (UV-C). Treatment with ultraviolet light is used on an industrial scale in city water systems (for example, Seattle). Our DayZero UV-H2O-Box products apply UV water treatment at a scale for families. Importantly, the models with generators can be used even when the power is out and the lights are off.

- UV dose: In all DayZero UV-H2O-Box products, exposure of clear water to the germicidal UV bulb for one minute delivers at least 40 mJ/cm2 of UV-C light energy throughout the tank, sufficient to reduce pathogens by 99.99% in the commonly used NSF P231 test protocol. - Automatic shutoff: When using external power, bulb turns off automatically after approximately one minute.
- Limitation: Like boiling, treatment with the DayZero UV-H2O-Box is not effective against non-biological contaminants such as heavy metals and petroleum products.
